Mentoring Program

Youth Champs 4 mental Health organizes annual Schools Mentoring Program. This is a creative approach of forming light houses or beacons of hope in schools and universities through the administration of peer support and guidance to students who are facing issues that may affect their studies and their lives. With a limited number and distribution of mental health professionals in the country, it is important to  have students  who are equipped with information and basic skills to respond to their peers and provide support to those individuals who may be at risk of harm. Peer support has proven most effective as students prefer to speak to someone they trust and especially someone who is able to relate to them and offer support that is autonomous and respectful.

Outcomes:

the outcome of the mentoring program is to Increase in numbers of youths trained in mental health and suicide prevention. We also aim to increase the numbers of youth facilitators to assist in dissemination of mental health information in their respective communities. We envisage a community where students and teachers utilize effective referral systems in accessing professional services for support and counseling

Most importantly we wish to create visibility around youth friendly health services and make information readily accessible for young people
